The Poetry of Commerce
A System Cannot Study Itself #877
Documentary | 2022 | 3’55
As I continue my ongoing diary film project (now entering year three), I’ve started combining days in order to make longer pieces, and explore the rhythms of daily life. This film follows the products gained, lost and mulled over during a four day period in the fall of 2022. The title is, of course, taken from Werner Herzog’s quote about how auction calling is the poetry of capitalism.
I had hoped that mounting several small mirrors onto the front of my camera would result in a new trademark look that I could apply to multiple projects, but ultimately I was a little unimpressed with the results. But maybe I’ll revisit the technique again in the future.
